Lithuanian avant-garde progressive metal band BLACK SPIKES have released their fourth single ‚ZELVAR‘, taken from their forthcoming debut album ‚Ydos‘. The track serves as a centrepiece of the band’s upcoming concept album ‚Ydos‘, scheduled for release on 28 August 2026.
Conceptually, ‚ZELVAR‘ tells the story of a demon of greed who infiltrates the human world, luring those consumed by ambition into an ever-tightening trap of insatiable desire. Notably, it is the only track on ‚Ydos‘ to feature English-language lyrics, giving it a distinctive entry point into the album’s broader thematic universe. True to form, BLACK SPIKES balance raw aggression with atmospheric, melodic refrains, demonstrating the sonic duality that has become their calling card.
‚Ydos‘ is a fully conceived concept album in which each of the ten tracks personifies a human vice as a named demon or mythological figure. From the orchestral dread of opener ‚PASAKA‘ to the cinematic closure of ‚DULKES‘, BLACK SPIKES weave together modern progressive metal, electronic textures, trap-influenced rhythms and filmic composition into a cohesive and ambitious whole. The album follows the band’s double nomination at Lithuania’s M.A.M.A. Music Awards and marks a significant step forward for the Vilnius-based quintet on the international stage.
‚Ydos‘ will be available on vinyl splatter white/black, solid gold vinyl, digisleeve CD and digital formats. BLACK SPIKES are also confirmed to perform at Uprising X in Wolverhampton, UK, on 24 April 2027.
