TARJA- Frisson Noir

So here it is: Frisson Noir, the brand-new album from Tarja Turunen. After several promising singles released in advance, expectations surrounding the record were understandably high. The big question ahead of release day was simple: would the album actually live up to that anticipation?

From our point of view: absolutely.

With Frisson Noir, Tarja delivers an album that brilliantly combines different chapters of her musical career. Fans of her solo work will immediately recognize everything that has made her stand out over the years: epic arrangements, cinematic atmosphere, dark elegance, and of course her unmistakable voice. At the same time, listeners who still look back fondly on her legendary years with Nightwish will feel right at home here as well.

Musically, the album comes with impressive heaviness, powerful songwriting, and a majestic atmosphere running through every single track. The balance between symphonic grandeur and heavy metal energy feels natural and incredibly well executed.

One of the album’s absolute highlights is “Leap Of Faith”, featuring former Marko Hietala. For longtime Nightwish fans, this collaboration alone will create a serious wave of nostalgia. But that is far from the only special moment on the record.

What makes Frisson Noir stand out even more is the impressive lineup of guest musicians spread across the album. Contributions from artists such as Apocalyptica and Dani Filth add even more depth, variety, and ambition to an already outstanding release.

The result is an album that satisfies longtime Tarja fans, reconnects with those missing the classic Nightwish era, and very likely introduces an entirely new audience to Tarja’s musical universe.

Frisson Noir is powerful, emotional, majestic — and for us already one of the strongest metal releases of the year.
