SEEDS OF TORMENT – From the Ruhr Valley Into the Abyss

Two musicians, eight songs, no room for light: with “Those Who Feed The Maw”, the duo from Gelsenkirchen and Hattingen delivers a death metal debut that commits itself entirely to the genre’s darkest roots. Some bands are born from years of rehearsal room work. SEEDS OF TORMENT were born from a guest appearance.

In spring 2023, guitarist Marcel Schiborr (SYMBIONTIC, HRAUN, THE WITCHES’ DREAM) contributed a set of leads to what was then the latest SUFFERSYSTEM album. What started as a collaboration quickly took on a life of its own. Marcel had spent a long stretch writing and recording songs rooted deep in old-school death metal — compositions that felt like stories from another world, waiting for a voice to carry their message. He found that voice in Daniel Funke (DEFECTED DECAY, SUFFERSYSTEM), who took over vocals and lyrics.

The EP they originally had in mind turned into a full-length album within a remarkably short time.

The Album, “Those Who Feed The Maw” – Release May 2025/ CD Release 21.08.2026: Eight songs, 36:38 running time, released through Black Blood Records. The title works as both statement and metaphor — it stands for those who surrender themselves to the darker forces, and it frames a record that deals consistently with the abysses of human existence.

Musically, SEEDS OF TORMENT wear their influences openly: MORBID ANGEL and DISSECTION are impossible to miss. What the duo builds from them still stands on its own — varied, demonic death metal that captures the essence of the genre’s dark origins without settling for pure homage. From the opening “Incantation Of The Damned” through to the sprawling closer “The Invocation Rite” (5:35), the album builds a pull that feels closer to a ritual than to a collection of songs.
The artwork comes from Julián Ibanez, the band logo from Vomitor — both fitting the aesthetic: raw, classic death metal imagery with none of the modern gloss.
