FEN announce new album & drop video single ‚Tectonic‘

East Anglian post-black metal stalwarts FEN have unveiled ‚Tectonic‘, the first advance single from their forthcoming eighth full-length ‚Elemental Part One: Mourning Earth‘. The album is scheduled for release on August 21, 2026, via Prophecy Productions, and marks a significant new chapter in the band’s two-decade career.FEN have returned with a visceral statement of intent. The East Anglian post-black metal trio have revealed ‚Tectonic‘ as the lead single from their eagerly anticipated eighth studio album, ‚Elemental Part One: Mourning Earth‘, due August 21, 2026, on Prophecy Productions.

An allegorical and symbolically charged music video accompanies the track, which band mastermind Frank ‚The Watcher‘ Allain describes as ‚one of the more direct songs within Mourning Earth; pulsing and surging with strident anger, heaving riffs and moments of pure, wordless anguish.‘ The song draws on imagery of tectonic geological forces as a metaphor for the restless, malformed interior of human consciousness.

The new record represents a deliberate departure from the dense, fast-paced assault of the 2023 predecessor ‚Monuments to Absence‘. FEN have consciously introduced breathing space, with much of the material recorded live to preserve organic feel and natural rhythmic flow. The rhythm section has moved away from blast-beat-heavy approaches in favour of dynamic drumming and intricate bass lines that counterpoint layered guitars.

Conceptually, ‚Mourning Earth‘ forms the first half of a two-album diptych titled ‚Elemental‘, described by the band as the most ambitious project they have yet undertaken. Lyrically, the record channels the desolate fenlands of East Anglia, the mists, bogs, and twilight regrets that have defined FEN’s sound since their formation in 2006.

Formed by members who took their name directly from the bleak fenland landscapes of their home region, FEN helped spearhead the UK post-black metal movement alongside WINTERFYLLETH and WODENSTHRONE. ‚Elemental Part One: Mourning Earth‘ arrives as the band’s most fully realised work to date, balancing black metal foundations with cinematic, emotionally expansive post-metal innovation.
