Italian progressive post-metal outfit THE VALLEY have released their new single ‚The River‘ via Volcano Records & Promotion, available on all digital platforms as of May 15. The track arrives alongside an official music video on YouTube, continuing the band’s run of conceptually rich releases.THE VALLEY have returned with ‚The River‘, a new single released on May 15 through Volcano Records & Promotion. The Northern Italian outfit, hailing from Cairo Montenotte in Liguria, continue to carve out a distinctive identity that draws from progressive rock, grunge, post-metal and contemporary alternative music, while maintaining a sound entirely their own.
On ‚The River‘, THE VALLEY deliver a hypnotic and emotionally layered composition that uses the river as a metaphor for an ever-shifting identity. Philosophical references tied to the concept of eternal return run throughout the track, exploring themes of personal transformation, release and the possibility of rebirth found in the act of movement itself. The result moves fluidly between moments of quiet fragility and sudden cathartic release, all held together by a strong narrative and sonic coherence.
Musically, the single further demonstrates THE VALLEY’s capacity to absorb major influences — most notably TOOL and MASTODON — and reshape them into something modern, stripped-back and deeply personal. Mastering duties were once again handled by Peter Doell, an internationally respected engineer whose work lends the band’s output a consistent depth and character.
The accompanying official music video extends the song’s conceptual universe and features the return of the moth, a symbol previously seen in the ‚Hypnagogia‘ video and in the band’s own logo. The image speaks directly to the theme of eternal return and marks the symbolic close of an artistic and recording cycle THE VALLEY have been developing over the past several months.
‚The River‘ is available now on all major streaming platforms.
