FEN unveil new single ‚Massif‘ ahead of album ‚Elemental Part One: Mourning Earth‘

East Anglian post-black metal stalwarts FEN have released their second advance single ‚Massif‘, taken from their forthcoming eighth full-length ‚Elemental Part One: Mourning Earth‘, due August 21, 2026 via Prophecy Productions. The track showcases the band’s signature blend of cinematic acoustics and ferocious black metal intensity, serving as the first part of a two-part centrepiece on the album.East Anglian post-black metal veterans FEN have unveiled ‚Massif‘, the second advance single from their highly anticipated eighth studio album ‚Elemental Part One: Mourning Earth‘, scheduled for release on August 21, 2026 through Prophecy Productions.

The track opens with evocative, cinematic acoustic passages before gradually building into a ferocious wall of sound, embodying the band’s deeply rooted English black metal aesthetic. Mastermind Frank ‚The Watcher‘ Allain describes the song as a meditation on the indifferent grandeur of mountain ranges and the inconsequential nature of human existence set against geological time. On the album, ‚Massif‘ flows seamlessly into its second part without interruption, forming one of the record’s central compositional pillars.

Marking FEN’s twentieth year as a band, ‚Elemental Part One: Mourning Earth‘ represents a deliberate return to foundational principles. Where their previous album ‚Monuments to Absence‘ (2023) leaned into density and intensity, this new record embraces breathing space, organic recording techniques, and dynamic rhythmic exploration. Large portions of the album were recorded live, allowing the natural momentum of each composition to develop unimpeded.

Lyrically, FEN draw on the bleak fenland landscapes of East Anglia that have defined their sound since their formation in 2006. The album is conceived as the first instalment of a two-part concept, making ‚Elemental‘ the most ambitious project the trio has undertaken to date.

The album was produced and mixed by Chris Fielding at Penylan Studio, with mastering handled by Jaime Gomez Arellano at Orgone Studios. Artwork was created by band member Grungyn (Adam Allain), with layout by Lukasz Jaszak.
