Finnish newcomers MERET have stepped into the light with their debut single ‚Breath Of The Dying Sun‘, released on May 14th, 2026 via Inverse Records. The track serves as the first taste of the band’s forthcoming self-titled EP, blending melancholy, beauty, and atmospheric heaviness in equal measure. Featuring veterans of the Finnish metal scene with roots in HANGING GARDEN, SHAMRAIN, CRIMFALL, and WHERE’S MY BIBLE, MERET arrive with serious pedigree.Finnish atmospheric metal outfit MERET have made their presence known with the release of their debut single ‚Breath Of The Dying Sun‘, out now via Inverse Records. Formed in 2025 in Heinola, the band wastes no time establishing a sound that balances dark, brooding atmospheres with melodic sensibility and dynamic songwriting.
The single is the opening statement from MERET’s forthcoming self-titled EP, expected later in 2026, and signals a project driven by emotional honesty rather than commercial calculation. The track was composed and arranged by vocalist and rhythm guitarist Toni Hinkkala, with additional arrangements by lead guitarist Mikko Kolari. The production was handled by bassist and backing vocalist Pasi Löfgren, who handled mixing duties, while Miro Kiiski took care of mastering.
Hinkkala describes the music as deeply personal: the songs, he explains, are built from the emotions and darkness he carries within, with music serving as a means to unravel an inner world that resists conventional expression. The result moves between beauty, melancholy, and shadow, while always preserving a thread of hope beneath the surface.
The members of MERET bring considerable experience from the Finnish metal circuit. The lineup also includes drummer Janne Jukarainen, completing a four-piece unit with roots in HANGING GARDEN, SHAMRAIN, CRIMFALL, and WHERE’S MY BIBLE. Despite those associations, MERET operates firmly on its own terms, rooted in personal vision and unfiltered emotional expression.
