Structured as a three-part cosmic death ritual, Dreaming Rat follows a triptych of parallel narrative arcs: a solar system burning through its lifespan, a civilization collapsing under its own complexity, and a parasite replicating itself across language, culture, and flesh. The record marks a deliberate shift in approach for the band, trading some of the atmospheric murk of previous efforts for a more immediate and frenetic sonic palette — closer, sharper, and considerably meaner.
Vocalist Zhenya Frolov delivers what the band describes as his most extreme performance to date, moving between death metal lows, black metal shrieks, and ritualistic howls as the album spirals toward a conceptual extinction. The listener is invited to drift unflinching through the maelstrom, mirroring the dreaming rat depicted on the album’s cover artwork by Kiri Yu.
Produced, mixed, and mastered by Ronald Foodsack of VOIDTHRONE, Dreaming Rat follows the band’s acclaimed 2022 release Metaphysical Degradation and continues a creative trajectory that began with Spiritual War Tactics in 2016.
