Finnish melodic death metal outfit BRYMIR have announced their fifth studio album, ‚What We Leave Behind‘, set for release on October 2, 2026 via Napalm Records. The band has unveiled the title track as the lead single, accompanied by an official music video that plunges into science fiction aesthetics and existentialist themes. Described as their darkest work to date, the record marks a bold new chapter for the quartet.Finnish melodic death metal force BRYMIR have announced their fifth studio album, ‚What We Leave Behind‘, scheduled for release on October 2, 2026 through Napalm Records. Alongside the announcement, the band has shared the album’s title track as the first single, complete with an official music video that embraces a sci-fi visual identity the band has been building toward for some time.
Comprised of vocalist Viktor Storm Gullichsen, guitarist Joona Björkroth, bassist Jarkko Niemi, and drummer Patrik Fält, BRYMIR have long drawn on Gullichsen’s background as a film sound designer to craft expansive, cinematic soundscapes. On ‚What We Leave Behind‘, that influence reaches its most fully realised expression yet. The album is framed as BRYMIR’s most lyrically and musically ambitious record, exploring themes of war, legacy, existential dread, and humanity’s relationship with progress — approached from personal, societal, and mythological angles.
The title track itself moves between aggressive verse passages and a sweeping, keyboard-driven chorus, delivering a pacifist statement set against imagery of a world consumed by conflict. In the accompanying video, the band literalises the album’s themes by venturing into space, examining what is left behind as civilisation races toward an uncertain horizon.
The eleven-track album traverses a wide sonic range, from the high-velocity opening of ‚Sleipnir‘ through the grief-structured ‚True Darkness‘ to the waltz-tempo closer ‚Broken Dawn‘. In a disarming final gesture, BRYMIR have also included a melodic death metal reworking of Scooter’s Eurodance classic ‚How Much Is The Fish‘, which doubles as a tongue-in-cheek continuation of the band’s advocacy against ocean pollution.
‚What We Leave Behind‘ will be available on limited vinyl variants, CD digipack, and digital formats. BRYMIR will support the release with a headline tour across Finland in autumn 2026.
