The record arrives to widespread critical praise, collecting top scores from publications across Europe and beyond.TRELLDOM have officially unveiled „…by the word…“, their second album of the new era, on May 29, 2026, through Prophecy Productions. The Bergen-based act, led by the enigmatic vocalist Kristian Eivind Espedal, known widely as Gaahl, has delivered a work of formidable ambition and labyrinthian darkness that critics have been quick to embrace.
Reviews have poured in from across the globe, with Germany’s Legacy magazine awarding 14 out of 15 points and calling it „a challenging, highly interesting album“. Norway’s Scream Magazine scored it 5 out of 6, while both the German and Italian editions of Rock Hard landed on 8 out of 10. French publication Metallian awarded 5.5 out of 6, and Belgian outlet Rock Tribune followed closely with 8.5 out of 10. Italian Metalhead.it and Greece’s Metal-Temple.com both awarded perfect scores of 10 out of 10, while US site InfernalMasquerade.com gave 96 out of 100. German state broadcaster Deutschlandfunk also dedicated an extensive spoken review dialogue to the album in its Tonart culture segment.
Building on the foundation laid by their 2024 comeback record „…by the shadows…“, which ended a 17-year hiatus, TRELLDOM push further into uncharted territory on the new release. The current line-up features guitarist Stian Karstad, percussionist Kenneth Kapstad, saxophonist Kjetil Moster, and bassist Eirik Oien. Vocals were recorded at the legendary Grieghallen Studios in Bergen with producer Eirik Hundvin, known as Pytten, a key architect of the Norwegian black metal sound.
The album spans seven tracks and is available in multiple formats including hardcover CD artbook, gatefold black vinyl LP, gatefold smokey marbled vinyl LP, and digipak CD. Vinyl formats have been postponed in Europe to June 26 and in the US to July 24, 2026.
