Nach ihrem Einstieg auf Platz 19 der deutschen Albumcharts mit ihrem aktuellsten Longplayer „Of Clarity and Galactic Structures“, ist die Blackened Death Metal Institution THE SPIRIT aktuell weiter auf den Sommerfestivals unterwegs, um Cosmic Terror auf die europäischen Bühnen zu bringen.
Mit ihrem neuen Musikvideo zu ‚Extending Obscurity‚ – einem raren Bonustrack, der bisher nur auf einer 7“ zu hören war – gibt die Band nun exklusive Einblicke in die Studioaufnahmen ihres letzten Albums mit verschiedenen Momenten auf und abseits der Bühne.
„Im Jahr 2018 haben wir eine Show zugesagt, die auf 50 Minuten Spielzeit angelegt war“, erinnert sich Matthias Trautes an die Entstehung des Tracks. „Da wir damals jedoch nur unser Debütalbum ‚Sounds from the Vortex‘ veröffentlicht hatten, kamen wir nur auf 45 Minuten mit Intro und zwei kurzen Pausen. Demnach entschied ich einige Wochen vor der Show, einen zusätzlichen Instrumentalsong zu schreiben, da es nicht das einzige Mal sein würde, an dem wir einen weiteren Track brauchten. ‚Extending Obscurity‘ passte gut in die Setlist, da er ein relativ langsamer Song für The Spirit Verhältnisse ist und dem Publikum einen Moment zum Atmen gab, bevor wir mit einem weiteren schnellen Song von dem Debütalbum weitermachten.
Als wir dann im Studio waren, um „Cosmic Terror“ aufzunehmen, und uns wir während der Drum-Sessions noch etwas Zeit übrig blieb, entschieden wir uns, diesen Song ebenfalls aufzunehmen. Später haben wir es als zweiten Track für die Pillars of Doom 7“ verwendet“. After hitting #19 in the German album charts with their latest full-length release „Of Clarity and Galactic Structures“, blackened death metal institution THE SPIRIT is finally back on the festival stages to bring cosmic terror across Europe.
With their new music video for ‚Extending Obscurity‚, a rare bonus track that has only been available on a 7“ so far, they take you back to the studio recordings of their latest album and offer some looks behind the scenes both on- and offstage.
„Back in 2018, we confirmed a show with a stage time of 50 minutes“, frontman Matthias Trautes remembers. „But with only our debut album ‚Sounds from the Vortex‘ out at this point, we just made it to 45 minutes with intro and two short breaks within the set. So, I decided to write a short instrumental song a few weeks before the concert to fill that gap and as it wouldn’t be the only time we would need it, because more and more shows came up. ‚Extending Obscurity‘ did fit very well in the setlist as this track is quite slow for a The Spirit song and it gave the audience a short moment to breathe before we unleashed another fast track from the debut album.
When we were in the studio to record ‚Cosmic Terror‘ and we had a bit of time left during the drum-sessions, we decided to record this song as well. Later we used it as the second track for the Pillars of Doom 7”. To make it available to everyone and not only the few owners of the limited 7”, we decided to release it now digital as well and make it available on all the streaming platforms.Watch the music for ‚Extending Obscurity‚ here:
