Four years after their last full-length, Lacrimas Profundere return with their new album „Lay Me Down O Silent Fear“. The band was far from idle in the meantime: they played more than 100 shows, including appearances at major European festivals. In autumn 2025, they toured Europe as support for Paradise Lost.
With the new record, Lacrimas Profundere set out to weave their different musical sides together more tightly than ever. The band calls this approach „Gothcore“: a blend of gothic and metalcore, heaviness and melody, enriched with dark rock elements. Opener „Days Of Doom“ shows exactly what that sounds like, hitting with plenty of force. „Faceless“ fuses gothic and metalcore into a single whole, while „Nevermore“ puts the band’s goth rock side front and center. The ballad „Veil XV“ provides a calmer counterpoint.
The remaining tracks also move between a wide range of influences. Among the artists the band grew up with, they cite Manowar, Dio, Sisters Of Mercy and Pantera. On the album, these roots meet elements reminiscent of Type O Negative, Sepultura, Slipknot and The 69 Eyes.
Good things take time, and „Lay Me Down O Silent Fear“ is no exception. The band spent three years on songwriting, followed by six months of pre-production. Recording once again took place at Kohlekeller Studio with Kai Stahlenberg, who also handled the mix. Oliver Nikolas Schmid took charge of production, and Rami Nykänen handled mastering. The bass tracks were recorded at Ilker Ersin’s Edentone Studio, while vocalist Julian Larre recorded his vocals in Finland.
Lyrically, the songs revolve mainly around loneliness, loss and the longing for closeness. Christopher Schmid and Julian Larre describe the album as a kind of shared mental labyrinth in which love, sin and destruction are inextricably intertwined.
Once again, Benny Richter adds atmospheric depth with his keyboard arrangements. As with the previous record, the artwork comes from Indonesian artist Bahrull Marta. It depicts a figure wrapped in a shroud, continuing the visual concept of the band’s last release.
„Lay Me Down O Silent Fear“ was released on September 25, 2026 via Steamhammer / Open Distribution as a digipak, limited LP, limited box set and digital download. The band had already released the singles „O Silent Fear“, „Nevermore“ and „Faceless“ ahead of the album.
