Swiss modern metal outfit ILLUMISHADE have returned with their brand new single ‚Paralyzed‘, released on May 22nd, 2026. Marking the band’s first release as fully independent artists, the track signals a striking new creative direction. Dark, heavy and emotionally raw, ‚Paralyzed‘ showcases the full range of ILLUMISHADE’s musical identity.Swiss modern metal outfit ILLUMISHADE have made their long-awaited return with the release of their new single ‚Paralyzed‘, out now on all digital platforms. The track arrives as the first statement of a bold new chapter for the band, one defined by complete creative independence after parting ways with Napalm Records following their 2024 sophomore album ‚Another Side of You‘.
Founded in Zürich in 2019 by vocalist Fabienne Erni and guitarist Jonas Wolf — both known for their work with Celtic folk metal titans ELUVEITIE — ILLUMISHADE have always carved their own path. ‚Paralyzed‘ is a testament to that relentless pursuit of originality. A crushing, whammy-ridden riff anchors the track from the outset, while Erni’s vocal performance moves seamlessly from melancholic restraint to soaring grandeur, demonstrating once again why she ranks among the most compelling voices in contemporary metal.
Lyrically, the song explores the agonising inability to release a love that has already passed — a hymn for the broken-hearted that nonetheless carries the faint thread of hope characteristic of ILLUMISHADE’s songwriting. The track was produced by Jonas Wolf and Claudio Rodriguez, mixed by Rodriguez, and mastered by Stefan Brown at the legendary Abbey Road Studio.
Completing the line-up alongside Erni and Wolf are award-winning film composer Mirjam Skal on keys and orchestration, Yannick Urbanczik on bass and Marc Friedrich on drums. Urbanczik also contributed additional arranging to the single.
As Erni explains of this new phase: ‚We’ve come to a point of stepping out of the cocoon. It feels like a soft revolution led us to this version of ILLUMISHADE.‘ With ‚Paralyzed‘, that revolution has well and truly begun.
