The concept album arrives August 7th via a three-label partnership spanning the UK, US, and China, accompanied by a new single and music video.Leeds-based instrumental post-rock quintet DIN OF CELESTIAL BIRDS have announced their highly anticipated second album, ‚Takeoffs & Landings‘, set for release on August 7th. The band has signed with celebrated UK independent label Big Scary Monsters, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and counts American Football, Lambrini Girls, and Arcane Roots among its roster. The album will be simultaneously released by A Thousand Arms in the US and Tomato Records in China, available on vinyl in multiple colour variants, CD, and digital streaming platforms.
The concept album is built around the themes of adventure, travel, and the journey of life, encompassing both its stresses and triumphs. To herald the announcement, DIN OF CELESTIAL BIRDS have released the title track and lead single ‚Takeoffs & Landings‘, a cinematic opener that races forward on a foundation of three interlocking guitars, soaring synths, and thunderous drums evoking rocket boosters at full thrust. The track draws inspiration from Russian cosmonaut Alexei Leonov, who completed the first spacewalk in 1965, and was shaped by guitarist and songwriter Andie Gill’s background in film and gaming scores.
The accompanying music video, directed and meticulously assembled over nearly 100 hours by guitarist Tom Hazlehurst, features vibrant animated airplanes and greenscreen footage that captures a playful, wide-eyed energy.
Recorded once again with producer Joe Clayton at No Studio in Manchester, the band doubled their studio time compared to their debut, allowing space for experimentation and spontaneous discovery. Album artwork was designed by Jim Cork at Explore Studio. DIN OF CELESTIAL BIRDS have previously performed at ArcTanGent, Damnation, and dunk! festivals, and shared stages with Explosions In The Sky, Emma Ruth Rundle, and Employed To Serve.
