The Australian/Finnish dark progressive gothic metal collective have unveiled a cinematic animated lyric video for their new single ‚Lament For The Hollow‘, offering the first glimpse into their upcoming studio album ‚Obscured Horizons‘, scheduled for release on September 18th via Reigning Phoenix Music.

Building on the widespread critical acclaim that greeted their 2024 full-length ‚Skinwalker‘ and the evocative ‚Celestial‘ EP released earlier this year, THE ETERNAL push deeper into emotionally charged territory with this new composition. ‚Lament For The Hollow‘ opens with a sweeping guitar harmony before unfolding into goosebump-inducing melodies and deeply affecting vocals — a sound that resonates with fans of Katatonia, Swallow the Sun, and Anathema.

The animated video mirrors the song’s emotional weight, depicting a stormy, restless high sea that captures the track’s dark and mesmerising atmosphere — simultaneously destructive and transfixing.

Vocalist and guitarist Mark Kelson describes the track as a confrontation with fractured identity, the stripping away of illusion, and the cleansing — if violent — passage of time. He frames ‚Lament For The Hollow‘ as both a warning and a catharsis, an anthem for the disenchanted and disenfranchised.

THE ETERNAL features Mark Kelson and Richie Poate in Melbourne, alongside Niclas Etelävuori (ex-Amorphis) and Jan Rechberger (Amorphis) in Helsinki — a genuinely international collaboration operating at the intersection of doom, progressive, and gothic metal. Further album details and additional singles are expected in the weeks ahead.
