A Dark Journey Through Emotional Depths
After the thrilling BLOOD & GLITTER led them to the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 and to the top of the German album charts, LORD OF THE LOST once again demonstrate their extraordinary versatility.
Between Darkness and Light
Introduced by delicate cello melodies, „Kill The Lights“ sets the necessary dark atmosphere as an overture, preparing the listener for the energetic release that follows in „I’m A Diamond.“ This collaborative track with SALTATIO MORTIS offers a deep insight into the emotional world of frontmen Chris and Alea.
„My Funeral“ unexpectedly delivers what is probably the most positive message on the album, contrasting it with its dark title. LORD OF THE LOST mix tongue-in-cheek lines into this soundscape, defining black as a „happy color“ and making pink the new color of mourning.
High-Profile Guest Appearances
„I Hate People“ brings horror punk icon WEDNESDAY 13 to the microphone for an industrial duet, before the gentle „The Shadows Within“ with its symphonic arrangements leads back into the emotional depths of the OPVS NOIR world. Then Chris Harms and departing KISSIN‘ DYNAMITE singer Hannes Braun meet for the French-language duet „La Vie Est Hell,“ based on Charles Baudelaire’s Les Fleurs du Mal.
„Square One“ is followed by „When Did The Love Break,“ a moving song about irretrievably lost love. XANDRIA’s Ambre Vourvahis‘ unmistakable voice lends additional depth to this pain.
The Conclusion of a Trilogy
After „Your Love Is Colder Than Death,“ LORD OF THE LOST join forces with Damien Edwards from the British glam rock band CATS IN SPACE for „Take Me Far Away,“ before OPVS NOIR Vol. 3 ends with the ambient ballad „The Days Of Our Lives.“ In no previous track have LORD OF THE LOST come so close to an electronic-classical film soundtrack hybrid – and without a happy ending, one can almost suspect a farewell here.
Conclusion
OPVS NOIR Vol. 3 continues LORD OF THE LOST’s unpredictable journey without settling for familiar paths. Rounding off the impressive trilogy, the album takes you by the hand and reliably accompanies you through the darkest hours.
