CHARLOTTE WESSELS‘ The Obsession opens a new chapter with „After Us, The Flood.“ With their first release since the extensive era surrounding The Obsession (2024), the former DELAIN singer and her project, which has now matured into a band, demonstrate their characteristic strong storytelling. „After Us, The Flood“ is enchanting and moving, reaching an explosive metal climax after symphonic, gentle passages. CHARLOTTE WESSELS‘ charismatic, hypnotic voice is always at the center.
The last few years have been formative for Charlotte’s development and her identity as an artist – from the two song compilations Tales From Six Feet Under (2021) and Tales From Six Feet Under Vol. II (2022) to her first full-length studio album The Obsession (2024). She has created music that is equally emotional, sonically sophisticated, and heavy. „After Us, The Flood“ is the first new release since The Obsession, created together with the band that now bears the album’s name. Joost van den Broek was also involved in the production and mixed the song, making a decisive contribution to the final result.
Charlotte continues to write, record, and release a new song every month on Patreon. She draws inspiration from a wide variety of musical styles. The result is captivating music that cannot be pigeonholed, yet always bears her unmistakable artistic signature.
CHARLOTTE WESSELS on „After Us, The Flood“:
„‚After Us, The Flood‘ is a song about climate change, told from the perspective of someone who has convinced himself that the problem does not affect him. Protected behind the walls of his own home, he believes he will remain unscathed while the world outside quietly falls apart. However, as the song progresses (spoiler alert!), it becomes clear that this security is a deceptive illusion. The decay he has ignored eventually catches up with him. We put a lot of heart and soul into this track and created a story about denial, fear, and the deceptive comfort of looking away. The accompanying video does not follow the lyrics literally, but symbolically interprets the consequences of this way of thinking: it shows a world in which wealth and power lose all meaning as soon as the planet as we know it disappears.“
