Following their oppressively dark single „Walking Wounded“ – hailed by Revolver as one of the strongest tracks of the week and described as „exquisitely funereal“ – Cleveland-based doom avant-gardists FRAYLE have now announced details of their third studio album: Heretics & Lullabies will be released on 10 October 2025 via Napalm Records!
FRAYLE have established themselves in recent years as one of the most impressive and distinctive voices in modern doom metal. Their unmistakable sound combines occult-infused heaviness with blackgaze elements to create an atmosphere somewhere between ritual and dream state. With Heretics & Lullabies, they further refine their vision – hypnotic, dark and deeply emotional. At the centre are the ghostly voice of Gwyn Strang and the powerful, dense guitar choirs of Sean Bilovecky. Together they create what they themselves describe as „lullabies of chaos“.
To accompany the album announcement, FRAYLE are also releasing a new song today: Lana Del Rey’s „Summertime Sadness“ becomes an atmospheric, dark sound journey in their cover version. The familiar melodies glow faintly under a heavy, foggy doom blanket – the perfect soundtrack for the last glimmer of summer before autumn sets in.
FRAYLE on the cover of „Summertime Sadness“:
„We’ve always been fans of songs with a melancholic touch – regardless of genre. When we heard ‚Summertime Sadness‘ for the first time, it was a special moment. Everything just fell into place with this song, without much effort. It was the first rough mix we got back from our producer. He had inserted a pause right before the breath that leads into the first chorus – and at that moment we knew: this is something special.“
