With their second EP The Red Garden, Canadian trio FREEZE THE FALL take a bold creative leap, delivering a genre-blurring release that fuses brooding metal energy with narrative depth and cinematic soundscapes. Set for release via 604 Records on June 18, 2025, the EP pushes the boundaries of modern hard rock, offering an experience that is as visceral as it is introspective.
Hailing from Kelowna, British Columbia, the band – Quinn Mitzel (vocals/guitar), Aria Becker (bass/backup vocals), and Jonah Goncalves (drums) – continue to carve out a space of their own with a distinct style that draws influence from Bring Me The Horizon, Evanescence, and Spiritbox while grounding their sound in a strong storytelling ethos.
An Audial Descent into The Red Garden
Produced, mixed, and mastered by Jordan Chase at Oodelally Recordings, The Red Garden explores deep emotional and social terrain with six tracks that form a cohesive conceptual arc. Album visuals by Kevin Moore (Soft Surrogate) enhance the darkly poetic world that the music inhabits.
The journey opens with the eerie instrumental “Denial”, setting a haunting tone before giving way to “Rot”, a song that pits medieval allegories against modern misinformation. “Hypothermia”, powered by Becker’s tense and complex basslines, examines identity loss in the digital age, while “VHS” borrows from the horror genre to reflect on manipulation and control.

A glimmer of warmth arrives with “Aurora”, a melodic track that meditates on shared human experience. Its ethereal tones contrast the dark intensity of “Oubliette”, which blends ambient textures and progressive structures, including a rare verse sung in French. The EP concludes with “Lace”, a sparse, emotionally raw finale about innocence lost and the painful inevitabilities of growth.
„This isn’t merely an album; it’s an immersive experience. With The Red Garden, we wanted to build a world where every note and lyric leads deeper into emotion and myth.“ – FREEZE THE FALL
A Rising Force in Modern Rock
Formed in 2023, FREEZE THE FALL made an early impact with a viral cover of THE WARNING’s “Evolve,” earning attention from both fans and industry pros. Their debut single “Glitch” followed in early 2024, leading to a distribution deal with 604 Records. Their debut EP Thrones (2024) further solidified their presence, with videos for “VHS” and “Hypothermia” receiving nominations at the Okanagan Screen Awards 2025.
What sets FREEZE THE FALL apart is their cinematic approach to songwriting. Each track stands as a chapter within a larger narrative – one that reflects the chaos, uncertainty, and fragile beauty of the human experience. Their lyrics wrestle with disinformation, isolation, emotional vulnerability, and personal rebirth, all wrapped in a heavy but melodic sonic palette.
With The Red Garden, FREEZE THE FALL have not only refined their sound but elevated their artistic vision. It’s a release that challenges, captivates, and lingers long after the final note fades.
