After their debut Reality Unreal shook the underground in 2022, Germany’s Darkness Surrounding are back with a brand-new full-length that aims higher, hits harder, and dives deeper: Is There Salvation? – out September 19, 2025.
Hailing from Wuppertal, Darkness Surrounding have carved out their own niche in the melodic death metal scene. The band thrives on contrast: razor-sharp riffs and relentless growls collide with soaring melodies and clean vocals. It’s a dual-fronted assault – brutal on one side, hauntingly melodic on the other.

Over the past two years, the band have toured across Europe, hit major festivals like Metal Frenzy and Turock Fest, and shared stages with acts as diverse as The Iron Maidens. Now, with their second record, they’re ready to prove they’re more than a promising newcomer – they’re a force to be reckoned with.
Is There Salvation? was written and refined over the course of a year and a half. For Darkness Surrounding, it’s not just “album number two” – it’s the next evolutionary step. The production is sharper, the songwriting more daring, and the emotional weight more tangible than ever before.
The album stretches across ten tracks, balancing ferocity and vulnerability. Stream it here on Spotify:
Darkness Surrounding don’t shy away from heavy topics. Achromatica takes on black-and-white thinking and the refusal to see nuance – a reflection of the polarized times we live in. Choke On Your Mistakes fires straight at cancel culture, questioning the way society deals with failure. Elsewhere, songs like Portrait Of Solitude and Chained Eternally bring out the band’s more introspective, melancholic side.
This duality defines the record: it’s both fists-in-the-air metal and a mirror held up to modern life.
With Is There Salvation?, Darkness Surrounding are no longer just introducing themselves – they’re demanding attention. The album is a bold mix of aggression and melody, of social critique and personal struggle. It’s the kind of record that makes you headbang, but also makes you think.
For fans of melodic death metal who crave both heaviness and depth, the answer to the album’s question might just be found within its 50 minutes of fury and beauty.
