Ninety seconds to twelve – that is the current reading of the Doomsday Clock, the metaphorical doomsday clock used by international scientists to determine the probability of a global catastrophe and the time remaining for humanity until the super disaster. There are only a few moments left for each individual to become aware of the threat and change something for themselves. A nerve-wracking balancing act between life and death, which TENSIDE also perform on their new album. On „Come Alive Dying“, the Munich-based modern metal formation moves in an existential gray area between apocalypse and creative rebirth – a stylistic and thematic tightrope walk with which the quartet sets completely new standards in its genre in 2023/24!

Founded in 2005, the band has been delighting an international fan community with their modern metal sound for more than fifteen years, combining influences from metalcore, thrash and industrial metal to create their completely unique and instantly recognizable trademark style. After highly acclaimed albums such as „NOVA“ (2013) and „Convergence“ (2017), TENSIDE achieved their greatest success to date with the longplayer „Glamour & Gloom“, which was released in March 2020 and entered the German Top 100 album charts at number 45. Overall, the album entered the digital charts in more than fifteen countries and generated several million global streams. TENSIDE have also built up a solid live reputation through countless concerts, from small underground clubs to the most prestigious festival stages. In addition to various headlining tours throughout Europe and the UK to China and Japan, the band has supported international acts such as Killswitch Engage, Trivium, As I Lay Dying, Bad Wolves and many others and rocked the boards worldwide from Wacken Open Air and With Full Force to the Bulgarian Hills of Rock and the Chinese Midi Festival. For the production of their 8th studio album, frontman Daniel Kuhlemann, guitarist Michael Klingenberg, bassist Jonas Hölscher and drummer Johannes Jörg have brought a real all-star crew on board, who have transformed the quartet’s musical vision into a wide-screen sound that is as bombastic as it is atmospheric. The new record was mostly recorded in the band’s own studio in Munich in collaboration with co-producer Christoph von Freydorf and with Kristian „Kohle“ Kohlmannslehner in his Kohlekeller Studios, before the tracks were mixed in Los Angeles by Joseph McQueen (As I Lay Dying, Bad Wolves, Bury Tomorrow) and finally mastered in Nashville by Ted Jensen (Gojira, Korn, Bring Me The Horizon). No repetitions – this is the band’s declared motto, which TENSIDE have remained true to on „Come Alive Dying“. „I think we’ve made our biggest progress to date with this album,“ explains singer Daniel Kuhlemann. „Everything is broader, more varied and deeper. There are typical metal planks in the familiar TENSIDE style, complemented this time by catchier and groovier numbers. We have given all the songs the space they need to grow. For the very first time, we have managed to fully realize what we had in mind. This is the record we always wanted to make!“
An atmospheric contrast of energy and emotion, heaviness, hooks and gripping harmonies, which merge with the sometimes shouted, sometimes clean vocals and dark, technoid electronica elements to create the ultimate end-time soundtrack for the metal arena moshpit. And in terms of content, TENSIDE also walk in a no man’s land of light and shadow, light and dark on their new album, as Daniel Kuhlemann continues. „Come Alive Dying is a hymn to death and life at the same time. I have gone through a very difficult time in the last few years.
Our last album was released in the early stages of the pandemic and put all plans on hold for the time being. During this uncertainty, my father also passed away. His last words were that he was ready for the next world. That touched me deeply and made me realize how close life and death are. One would be unthinkable without the other. I turned my whole life upside down during this phase. And I asked myself a lot of questions“, the answers to which can now be heard on „Come Alive Dying“. A few at least. I see the end of the pandemic as a new beginning. As a new start in a strange world. And as a challenge to embrace change. That’s the second major theme in the songs.
„Come Alive Dying“ is completed by the breathtaking artwork of renowned British 3D artist Phil Radford aka MayaGuy, who has captured the thematic concept of the album perfectly. All videos for the album were produced by filmmaker and director Mirko Witzki (Caliban, Any Given Day, Arch Enemy) and realized in collaboration with Phil Radford and the band.
