Die Horror-Punk-Ikone WEDNESDAY 13 hat sich mit seinem elektrisierenden Solo-Projekt und als Frontmann der renommierten Horror-Punk-Supergroup Murderdolls in die Top-Liga der modernen Rock-, Punk-und Metal-Legenden gespielt und dabei eine Kult-Anhängerschaft aufgebaut.
2022 kehrt der unbestrittene King des Horror-Metal zurück und legt nach dem hochgelobten Necrophaze von 2019 mit Horrifier ein brandneues Werk vor -eine Mischung aus elf grimmigen und groovigen Hymnen, die das Blut in Wallung bringen und die Gehirne explodieren lassen! Horrifier zeigt eine Mischung aus diversen Stilen der 20-jährigen Karriere der Band und schafft es, einen Klangfaden zu weben, der an die Wurzeln von WEDNESDAY 13 erinnert -eine raue Mischung aus morbidem Metal und makaberem Heavy Rock, die sowohl neue als auch eingefleischte Fans aus den Tiefen aufsteigen lassen wird.
Wie immer sind verschiedene Tracks des Albums von klassischen Horrorfilmen inspiriert, dieses Mal von John Carpenters Kult-Slasher „Halloween“ und den kultigen „Christine“-Thrillern.
Das neunte Album von WEDNESDAY 13 beginnt mit dem unheimlichen Intro-Track „Severed“, bevor es in einen der härtesten Songs der Band übergeht; das massive, langsame und tiefe „Insides Out“, das von haarsträubenden Gitarrenleads und spukendem Gesang untermalt wird.
Das aggressive und industriell angehauchte „Exhume and Devour“ und die warnende Sing-a-long-Single „You’re so Hideous“ ziehen das Tempo mit tanzbarem 90er-Jahre-Sound an, während der Hit „Good Day to Be a Bad Guy“ den Horror-Punk-Geist der Murderdolls als geradezu fröhlichen, augenzwinkernden Ohrwurm interpretiert, der sich als aboluter Ohrwurm entpuppt.
Die von John Carpenter inspirierte Halloween-Hymne „Return to Haddonfield“ überzeugt mit marschierenden Gang-Vocals und einem Gitarrensolo, bevor das Tempo beim rasanten, moshtauglichen Titeltrack „Horrifier“ wieder anzieht. Das Southern Rock angehauchte „Hell Is Coming“ ist eine der besten Performances des Albums, unterstrichen durch eine souveräne Gesangsleistung, und einen Thrash-würdigen Breakdown und Bluesrock-Solo.
Mit „Halfway to the Grave“ lässt die Band die Nostalgie der 80er Jahre verspüren, mit einprägsame Leads und flehende Texten, bevor es in „Christine“ übergeht: „Fury in the Night“, mit stampfenden Drums, einer exzellenten Hook und einem fesselnden Gitarrenlead, das buchstäblich antreibt.
Horrifier schließt mit dem herzergreifenden Track „The Other Side“ -einer persönlichen Ode, die WEDNESDAY 13 über den plötzlichen Verlust seiner Mutter und seines ehemaligen Murderdolls-Bandkollegen Joey Jordison geschrieben hat – die aber auch als lebenswichtige Hymne glänzt, die nach den letzten Jahren intensiver weltweiter Verluste noch relevanter geworden ist.

Heavy horror punk icon WEDNESDAY 13 has climbed his way to the top of the horrendous heights of rock, punk and metal with his electrifying solo music and as frontman of renowned horror punk supergroup Murderdolls, amassing a colossal cult-following along the way.
In 2022, the undisputed harbinger of metal horror returns, following up on 2019’s acclaimed Necrophaze (#2 US Heatseekers) with Horrifier – a brand new slathering of 11 terrifyingly grim and groovy anthems to get blood pumping and brains melting! Showcasing a blend of styles from the band’s 20-year career, Horrifier manages to weave an underlying sonic thread reminiscent of WEDNESDAY 13’s roots – a raucous blend of ballistic metal and macabre heavy rock that’ll have new and diehard fans alike ascending from the depths. As always, various tracks on the album are inspired by classic horror flicks, this time circling cult-favorite slasher John Carpenter’s Halloween and the iconic Christine supernatural thrillers.
WEDNESDAY 13’s ninth full-length album kicks off with eerie introductory track “Severed” before careening into one of the band’s heaviest songs ever recorded, the massive, slow and low “Insides Out”, accented by hair-raising guitar leads and slithering vocals.
The aggressive, industrial-edged “Exhume and Devour” and warning sing-a-long single “You’re so Hideous” pick up the pace with danceable 90s sonic vigor, while surefire hit “Good Day to Be a Bad Guy” aces the pure horror punk spirit of Murderdolls as a downright blissful tongue-in-cheek earworm that’ll seep into the listener’s head on repeat.
John Carpenter’s Halloween inspired anthem “Return to Haddonfield” convinces with marching gang vocals and a searing metallic guitar solo before the pace picks up again on fast-riffing, mosh-ready title track “Horrifier”. Southern-fried metal tinged “Hell Is Coming” is one of the album’s best displays of stylistic versatility, accented by an impressively commanding vocal performance while pumping out a thrash-worthy breakdown and blues rock solo.
“Halfway to the Grave” sees the band echoing 80s flavor accented by memorable leads and imploring lyrics before leading into the charging Christine themed album standout “Christine: Fury in the Night”, featuring pounding drums, an unforgettable hook and a transfixing guitar lead that quite literally drives. Horrifier closes with its most heartfelt track, “The Other Side” – a personal ode WEDNESDAY 13 penned about the sudden loss of his mother, as well as former Murderdolls bandmate Joey Jordison – but that also shines as a vital anthem made further pertinent after recent years of intense worldwide loss and reflection.
