A work, a change, a re-entry into the melancholic self – OPVS NOIR runs no risk of becoming a scion of understatement, neither in its title nor in its musical opulence. And quite rightly so: not only will it be the first album as a six-piece band, but also the prelude to an entire album trilogy that will be released in several editions, including strictly limited collector’s items, of course.
There will be 11 songs per volume, i.e. 33 songs in total, which will not only conclude the wonderfully eccentric chapter of Blood & Glitter, but also embark on an uncompromising return journey into the band’s dark inner self. While LORD OF THE LOST were in the spotlight of the great open space in the previous period, OPVS NOIR Vol. 1, to be released on August 8, 2025 via Napalm Records, represents a confident dive into previously untouched emotional depths.
Chris Harms on OPVS NOIR:
„Darkness, melancholy, loneliness – all words that often have negative connotations, that people may associate with danger, sadness and loss, and not without reason. But darkness can also be security, melancholy the warm and sentimental feeling of our memories, and loneliness becomes necessary silence, peace and inner contemplation.
OPVS NOIR is a travel guide, or perhaps also a travelogue, through the dark sides of our inner world, which so often move precisely in the area of tension between what we emotionally categorize as positive or negative. And with Vol. 1, all of this is just the beginning of this 3-part journey…“
But what is the LORD OF THE LOST essence in 2025? That is one of the questions that OPVS NOIR Vol. 1 fearlessly begins to answer. Once again, the band not only demonstrates musical excellence, but also top-class craftsmanship: produced by Chris Harms, recorded, mixed and mastered at the legendary CHAMELEON STUDIOS in Hamburg, the 11 tracks crash into the room with a force and brilliance that compositionally washes us straight into a dark-colored ballroom.
From then on, the tone is set: Amphitheater-sized dark wave metal.
Everything is new and yet every note feels familiar. Behind every chorus a surprise awaits, in every line a new door opens to further open ends of the LOTL universe. This band takes the expectations of their ever-growing fan base and pours them into songs that break genre boundaries – turning moments into monuments that take us all with them: No one lost behind! OPVS NOIR Vol. 1: To be continued…
