The 2023 lineup of the Ultima Ratio festival is also something to be proud of. Paradise Lost, founded in 1988 in West Yorkshore, are rightly considered co-founders of an entire metal subgenre since their early death/doom masterpiece „Gothic“. While they opened up to other directions in the 90s, their last albums „The Plague Within“, „Medusa“ and „Obsidian“ are thrvufde colossal, epic-disheartening works, which charismatically and lightlessly stage their return to themes like slow death and spiritual defeat. As co-headliners in the billing we find the Dublin Pagan/Celtic Metal co-founders Primordial – their still current album is titled „Exile Amongst Ruins“, although we dare to hope for new material. It’s about time. The evening rounds off with Finnish melodic death metal from Omnium Gatherum and Harakiri For The Sky from Austria.
