The southern German metal institution BRAINSTORM will not only start their European tour with their Finnish label mates ARION in two weeks, but will also release their long-awaited new album „Plague Of Rats“ via RPM on February 28, 2025. Like the first single, ‚Garuda (Eater Of Snakes)‘, the track ‚The Shepherd Girl (Gitagovinda)‘ takes the listener to the legendary ancient India that has significantly influenced the new album.
The single tells of a supernatural, passionate relationship between Krisha, who is probably known to most as the god of love and joy and the patron saint of shepherds, his wife and her playmates, the gopis. Beginning with cheerful traditional sounds, ‚The Shepherd Girl (Gitagovinda)‘ transforms into a simple but powerfully stomping song. Compared to their previous single, ‚Beyond Enemy Lines‘, the new track returns to the basic elements of metal and features only subtle orchestral tones. For its anthemic chorus alone, ‚The Shepherd Girl (Gitagovinda)‘ should be part of BRAINSTORM’s setlist from now on! The accompanying music video, once again realized by Mirko Witzki (Witzki Visions), skilfully illustrates the theme of the song in the form of scenes full of shimmering temples and other Indus elements.
Frontman Andy B Franck explains: „‚Gitagovinda‘ is the third single from our new album and is based on a Sanskrit poem written at the Bengali royal court in the 12th century. It describes the love affair between the Hindu god Krishna, his wife Radha and the gopis, the so-called ’shepherd girls‘. This kind of mythology fascinates me incredibly and I think that more attention should be paid to this exciting culture worldwide. The original work combines elements of religious mysticism with eroticism. Seduction, love adventures and the devoted worship of the gods are of immense importance in it. The text is brimming with melancholy and despair, but also reflects the soul and provides a deep insight into hopes and longings. The whole thing may seem a little unusual by BRAINSTORM standards, but it’s definitely worth a read.“
