Finnish hard rock/metal monster combo LORDI are shortening the seemingly endless wait for their upcoming „Limited Deadition“ with a second single today. With the song, which goes by the name of ‚Retropolis‘, the band teleports its followers back to the 80s, both musically and lyrically. Seductive guitars and synth leads arouse plenty of nostalgic feelings and should make the remaining days until March 21, 2025, when LORDI’s new album will be released via RPM, pass as if in a dream.
„‚Retropolis‘ almost became the title of the new album, as it sums up its context perfectly: Musically, it’s based on a main riff penned by Kone. It seems downright cheerful and is almost reminiscent of U.D.O.’s „Faceless World“ album. I wanted to build the best possible vocal line around that riff, but without sounding too clichéd. We ended up sticking to that main riff, from which the rest of the song kind of evolved on its own. With its lyrics, I wanted to create a kind of 80s painting in the mind’s eye, like shows like „Knight Rider“, „Battlestar Galactica“ or „Masters Of The Universe“ once produced. The visuals for the song became even more important when IRON MAIDEN’s „Somewhere In Time“ cover popped into my head. In terms of content, however, the song doesn’t really tell a story, but rather depicts an 80s post-apocalypse scenario. Talking about it makes me realize once again how much I miss those times. Everything was just better back then…what doesn’t look better in neon light?“ recalls Mr Lordi.
