After releasing their album Thalassic in 2020, fans of ENSIFERUM had to wait four years for the follow-up, Winterstorm.
Rich in atmospheric soundscapes, Winterstorm features both powerful, growling vocals and clean, melodic harmonies. The band maintains their signature fusion of aggressive metal and folk elements, with intricate instrumental sections that showcase a dynamic range of tempos and moods. Overall, the album builds on Ensiferum’s established sound while introducing new layers of storytelling and musical complexity.
Much of the album was written during the lockdown, with guitarist Markus Toivonen composing the majority of the tracks. An exception is the song „Fatherland,“ penned by bassist Sami Hinkka, who also crafted the fantasy concept that ties the album together.
